Saman was 18 and of Pakistani origin. She had refused to marry a cousin in Pakistan and had reported her parents for mistreatment and for pressuring her into marriage.
What happened
Saman disappeared from the family home in Novellara near Reggio Emilia on the night of 1 May 2021; her parents fled to Pakistan. Her body was found buried near the house in November 2022. Her parents and two cousins were sentenced to life imprisonment and an uncle to 22 years; Italy's Court of Cassation made the sentences final in 2026.
