Raquel was 45, from Eibar in Gipuzkoa, and worked as a waitress in San Sebastián de los Reyes; she lived in Alcobendas with her children.
What happened
On 2 May 2017 Raquel was stabbed about 30 times in the bathroom of the family flat in Alcobendas. Her son Malik Markel was also murdered. The perpetrator, a Moroccan national living irregularly in Spain who had previously been expelled to Morocco and returned in March 2017, fled briefly to France before being arrested in Madrid. In June 2021 the Tribunal Supremo confirmed prisión permanente revisable for the murder of the child and 25 years for the murder of Raquel, with a gender aggravating circumstance.
