Rania was 25, a mother of three, of Palestinian descent; she had grown up in Syria and moved to the UK in 2005.
What happened
On 7 June 2013 Rania was murdered in Salford by her husband after she had sought a divorce and a more independent life. Her body was concealed; remains were only found in 2025. In June 2014 Manchester Crown Court sentenced her Syrian-born husband, who had immigrated to the UK with her, to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years for an honour-related murder.
