Who they were
Nadine loved theatre and literature and had taken classes for 30 years at the Théâtre du Phœnix in Nice, where she had performed just a month earlier. Her teacher called her "incredibly kind, full of gentleness, always smiling"; the theatre's director praised her "prodigious memory". She had had a difficult childhood and was writing her autobiography, which her husband Joffrey had published after her death. She lived near the basilica and went there to pray.
