Nada Čižmár
Died 19 December 2016
Who they were
Nada was a Czech citizen and mother of a five-year-old boy. Since 2014 she had worked for a logistics company in Berlin, where she lived with her family. Her husband, Petr, deliberately made her name and face public so she would not become an anonymous statistic – "we are people who have names, friends and families," he explained.
What happened
On the evening of Monday 19 December 2016, Nada was at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz when a hijacked lorry drove into the crowd. She was one of 13 people who lost their lives. The family waited three days for DNA confirmation. The attacker was shot dead by Italian police four days later, so there was no trial.
