Who they were
Marie came from Trollhättan, where she was a teacher at Kronans school and sat on the municipal education committee for the Green Party. Her party colleagues described her as "a woman with a big heart and civil courage" and said she left a great void. Her school held a memorial service for her.
What happened
Marie was gravely injured when a man drove a hijacked truck down Drottninggatan in Stockholm on Friday 7 April 2017. She fought for her life for three weeks and died on 28 April 2017, the attack's fifth victim. In June 2018 Stockholm District Court sentenced the attacker to life imprisonment for terrorist offences and expulsion from Sweden.
Verdict / confirmation
Stockholms tingsrätt, 7 June 2018: life imprisonment for terrorist offences (5 murders, 119 attempted murders) + permanent expulsion. Not appealed.
Perpetrator: A 39-year-old Uzbek citizen whose asylum application had been rejected and who had evaded a deportation order (DN, SVT, court). Confessed to terrorist offence.
