Malik Markel was 12, the son of Raquel López Airas; he lived with his mother in Alcobendas.
What happened
On 2 May 2017 Malik Markel was murdered in the Alcobendas flat shortly after his mother Raquel had been stabbed to death. According to the court’s findings he was attacked from behind with 16 stab wounds, and a scarf was placed around his neck to ensure his death. In June 2021 the Tribunal Supremo confirmed prisión permanente revisable for the murder of the child.

Tribunal Supremo, 9 Jun 2021: confirmed prisión permanente revisable for the murder of Malik Markel and 25 years for the murder of Raquel, with a gender aggravating circumstance (Audiencia Provincial de Madrid, 6 Nov 2019).
Perpetrator: A Moroccan national living irregularly in Spain who had previously been expelled to Morocco (El País, RTVE).
