Little has been published about Klaus's life. The name is engraved in the steps of the memorial in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
What happened
On the evening of Monday 19 December 2016, Klaus was at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz in Berlin when a hijacked lorry was driven into the crowd. Klaus was one of those who lost their lives. The attacker was shot dead by Italian police four days later, so there was no trial.

No trial – perpetrator killed 23 Dec 2016. Bundestag inquiry committee (2021) documented authorities' failures.

Perpetrator: A 24-year-old Tunisian whose asylum application in Germany had been rejected (deportation stalled for lack of papers). Identified by the Federal Prosecutor (fingerprints, ID in cab); shot dead by Italian police in Sesto San Giovanni on 23 Dec 2016.
