Hediga was 34, Syrian and a mother of two. She lived in Vejle after seeking asylum in Denmark.
What happened
On 9 October 2015 Hediga took the train from Vejle to Vordingborg to leave her children with her Syrian ex-husband. She has not been seen since. Her body has never been found. On 28 January 2017 the court in Nykøbing Falster found her ex-husband guilty of murder and improper handling of a corpse and sentenced him to 12 years in prison and permanent expulsion. Østre Landsret upheld the sentence on 27 September 2017. The couple had come to Denmark in 2014 and sought asylum.
