Who they were
Fadime was 26, a Kurdish-Swedish human rights campaigner and public debater. She spoke openly against honour-related violence, including in the Swedish parliament. Her life and death became one of the starting points for the human rights organisation GAPF.
What happened
On 21 January 2002, Fadime was shot dead in Uppsala by her own father in an honour-related killing. Her father was sentenced to life imprisonment; in 2015 the sentence was converted to 24 years.
