Elin was 27 and came from Falköping. She was in Gothenburg after a night out.
What happened
In the early hours of 26 September 2010, an Ethiopian citizen with a Swedish residence permit followed Elin after she left a tram on Hisingen in Gothenburg. He tried to rape her and beat her to death. Her body was found the next day in Länsmansgården. DNA and CCTV linked him to the crime. Göteborgs tingsrätt sentenced him to 16 years in prison and deportation for murder and attempted rape; the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden upheld the sentence in 2011.
