Who they were
Cansel grew up in Vanse on Lista and was the mother of a little daughter. She and her daughter lived together in a flat in central Evje. A month before her death she had reported her former partner for threats and asked for a restraining order, which was never granted. Police released her photo with her family's permission.
What happened
On Friday 30 October 2020, Cansel was stabbed to death in her own home by her former partner while their daughter slept in the flat. He called the police himself. In November 2021 Agder District Court sentenced him to 13 years in prison for murder and threats. Norway's police-complaints body later examined how her report had been handled.

Agder tingrett, 1 Nov 2021: 13 years' imprisonment; ~NOK 930,000 to daughter, NOK 200,000 to each parent.
Perpetrator: Her former partner (21), an Afghan refugee who came to Norway aged 15 (NRK).
