Balaclava, Gloves, Cable Ties: Man Who Crept Into a 13-Year-Old’S Bedroom Jailed for 18 Years

Christopher Buxey, 43, from Gosport, broke into a family home in West Sussex and stood over a teenage girl’s bed with pre-looped cable ties. Her screams woke her parents, who held him until police came. He was also convicted of child sex offences in Hampshire.

She woke up and he was standing over her bed. In the early hours of 4 June 2026, Christopher Buxey, 43, of Privett Place in Gosport, crept into a family home in a village near Chichester, West Sussex, dressed in black, wearing a balaclava and black latex gloves, and holding pre-looped cable ties.

The 13-year-old girl screamed. Her parents ran in and found her lying in bed kicking at the intruder. Buxey attacked both of them as he tried to escape, but they held on to him until officers arrived. Police found ten more prepared ties hanging from a carabiner, a roll of duct tape, a torch he had left on the floor by the bed and a multitool with a hammer left on her pillow.

“Buxey perpetrated immensely distressing ordeals on the victims and their families.”

A second case in Hampshire

At Portsmouth Crown Court on 6 July, Buxey admitted trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and actual bodily harm. He denied attempted kidnap but admitted attempted false imprisonment, which the court accepted. In a separate Hampshire investigation he admitted two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two of taking and three of making indecent photographs of a child.

On Thursday 15 October the same court jailed him for 18 years, with a further five years on extended licence — 23 years in total. Detective Superintendent Colin Garman thanked officers in both Sussex and Hampshire for “complex investigations which ultimately held Buxey accountable”. The case was shared on X by @britmatters. A family’s courage, not a locked door, stopped what he came to do.

What happens next

Buxey will serve his sentence before any parole board considers release, followed by five years on extended licence.
