The House Condemned Socialism, 220 to 192
The US House of Representatives adopted a resolution condemning socialism in all its forms. The vote was 220 for and 192 against.
@oresundsbaron posted it on 2 September and asked whether anyone in the Folketing would table the same. In a second post he gave a breakdown: 211 of 218 Republicans voted yes, seven were absent; 192 of 213 Democrats voted no, eight voted yes, two were present and did not vote, eleven were absent.
CBS reports the roll as 220 to 192 to 2. Eight Democrats joined all Republicans who voted in favour. The eight named by CBS are Kathy Castor, Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, Jared Golden, Vicente Gonzalez, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Darren Soto and Gabe Vasquez. Present: Chrissy Houlahan and Maggie Goodlander. 211 plus 8 is 219. CBS says 220. I do not close the one-vote gap by force.
The measure is H.Res. 1490, a non-binding resolution introduced by Rep. Jeff Crank of Colorado. It also reaffirms support for the SAVE America Act. Hakeem Jeffries said he would vote against it because of that inclusion. The rule vote earlier in the day passed 209–208 after Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez voted to advance it.
A messaging resolution. It does not change the criminal law. It puts the word on the board and makes the minority walk past it.Is this accurate — or do I have a detail wrong?
