An Explosion Near Augsburg Station. Two Were Hurt. Police Have Not Called It a Grenade

According to @BasilTheGreat, writing that morning:

“BREAKING: There has been a Grenade Attack at a train station in Augsburg, Germany. So far reports claim two teenagers have been severely injured.”

The grenade is the post’s word, and Bild’s. Bavarian police, in the accounts I have opened, have not confirmed the type of device.

Presse Augsburg, updated at 10:12 on 2 September, says a still-unknown object exploded in Bahnhofstraße. A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were lightly injured. They suffered a blast trauma — Knalltrauma. Both, police said, hold Ukrainian citizenship. Windows in nearby buildings broke. The State Criminal Police Office, the LKA, was brought in.

Die Zeit, citing a police spokesman, places the explosion near the station entrance. Two Ukrainian citizens, 17 and 18, were lightly injured. Then, during the operation, officers found a second suspicious object. The station was sealed. Trains stopped.

RP Online, later the same morning, reports the sequel: the second object was declared harmless. The station, which had been closed, was released. A police spokesman said so.

The Independent records Bild’s jewellery-shop grenade, and records that a police spokesman said details of the device remained unclear. I leave the two sentences next to each other.

DW’s live file, the same day, says the station reopened after police gave the all-clear. Two passers-by, 17 and 18, had minor acoustic trauma. Police have not immediately confirmed a grenade.

A passageway. A bang at a quarter past three. Two young people with ringing ears. A second object that was, after the robots and the dogs, called harmless. The file is open. The name of the device, in the police language I have, is still “unidentified.”
