A Newborn Girl in Sheffield Died of Stab Wounds

Officers were called at about 06:00 BST on Sunday 30 August to a property on Holywell Heights in Wincobank, after reports of concern for the safety of a newborn. Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic post-mortem on Monday 31 August determined that she died as a result of stab wounds.

Seven people aged between 15 and 37 — Yorkshire Live once writes 38 — were arrested on suspicion of murder. Two, aged 26 and 37, were bailed. Police obtained a warrant to extend detention for the remaining five. Det Ch Insp Emma Knight said the force was working to determine the ages of some of those arrested, and asked people not to speculate. The incident number is 993 of 30 August 2026.

A neighbour told the BBC that a family had moved in about eight months ago — a man, a woman and three teenagers — quiet, with many visitors. She had not been aware of any pregnant woman in the house.
